Breath - The Collection
‘Breath’ is Wild Cottage Works' first original collection, a series of watercolor landscapes that go beyond just paint on paper.
This series began during a particularly cold winter, when everything felt far more bleak and grey. The chaotic pace of daily life clashed with the slower rhythms of the season, which is so much harder when all you want to do is curl up under a blanket. The days are shorter and time feels fleeting, even though the season itself seems endless. It was on one of those misty days I found my inspiration.
Often in films, fog or mist are used to signify suspense or something ominous but out in the countryside, I found it to be calming and breathtaking. Looking out over the horizon, with mist rolling over hills and trees like a soft blanket, I felt that it was necessary to pause and take a deep breath. The mist brought a stillness I had never fully appreciated before. In that moment, I realised how often we forget to take those all important deep breaths, to slow down and pause, even for just a moment.
Soon I found myself wanting to spend some time staring out the window or if I was willing, wrap up with a hot tea to hand and just watch the mist and breathe. This connected me to nature in winter, a time when we are most likely to feel disconnected to it. In those few minutes it grounded me and help me catch my breath.
I wanted to capture this feeling in a painting. Something that would remind you of the gift the mist can bring you, even when indoors. I could still feel connected to nature, even if I wasn’t near it. Thats why this collection is named ‘Breath’, a reminder to just pause and take that deep breath and connect with yourself through a reflection of nature.
With warmth,
Halimah
